Our unlined waxed cotton poncho has been carefully designed to make your adventures in the harsh elements as enjoyable as possible.
It is crafted from 405gsm (12oz) British made 100% cotton canvas. The canvas has an ultra dry waxed finish which readily forms a beautiful antiqued patina.
The hood is fixed with high quality DOT brand brass press studs negating the need for a seam around the neck, thereby reducing any risk of water ingress. The front of the poncho features a classic half zip opening which is backed to keep the weather out, even when open. nb: currently the YKK Aquaguard zip is black, not green as in the photos.
The flat, laid out poncho measures approximately 1.5 x 2.1m (or 1.5 x 2.6m in the long option) which translates to 1.5m wide across the shoulders and about 1m length, front and back (1.3m in the long). We can make it longer if required, but not wider. You probably don't need it narrower.
We have added DOT brand press studs down both sides to allow the poncho to be closed off when being worn and these, along with the extra press studs at the rear and eyelet at the front, will allow it to be fitted to our slip-in bedrolls for a quick sleeping solution. The press studs also allow the poncho to be turned into a narrow bivvy by folding it lengthways and press-studding the long sides together.
Options include a choice of colour for the tape around the edges, a wool lined hood for warmth, and the addition of a webbing loop on each corner for use as a small shelter (please note that the neck hole does not seal completely but the hood can be repositioned to prevent water ingress to some degree).
Weights are as follows:
Regular Unlined: 1.9kg
Long Unlined: 2.25kg
These are made to order (allow 2 weeks) in our Essex workshop but we may have stock in show season.
Pictures show both lined and unlined versions.
Note: We are currently using NATO black hardware while we wait for a restock of the gilt brass finish.
Another quality hand made item, I even got an email during the construction to be offered different colours of material that may look better, something I really appreciated. This poncho will last beyond my years, it's a wearable poncho for rain protection, it's warm kit with the wool lining, it's a tarp/shelter, it's a ground cover...this has so many uses and possibilities. Thanks Ollie for the great service and another great product
I absolutely love the product, it's so much nicer to wear than the various other poncho's I have had over the years. The extra weight of this material is a definite bonus in my opinion as it stops it flapping around and makes it more suitable for so many other jobs from being a simple bed or barrow cover, through to a sitting mat, a small tarp and even for its intended use - wearing it in rough weather or whilst simply lounging around the campfire. It will also come into its own shortly for throwing on at peak mosquito time as the light drops. Much easier hiding inside poncho for an hour than layering up and lathering up.
The best piece of outdoor clothing I have ever bought. The quality of the Craftsmanship is number one. It’s kept me warm and most of all dry. Great idea for it to be multi functional being able to use it as a tarp. A1 product again from Outhaus !
